The frosty temperatures coming in this next week are tough on poinsettias. Poinsettias are natives of Mexico and don't like temperatures under 45-50 degrees for long periods of time (more than 2 hours). Plan on arranging your schedule and errands to make picking up your poinsettias the last thing on your list - or, be in a position to run them home before you go back to your errands. Most garages are not heated and will drop below 45 degrees, so your plants need to be brought in to your home overnight. Make sure your poinsettias are wrapped during the colder temperatures - they can freeze if left unprotected in the short time it take you to walk to your car from your office!
NOW - Your Poinsettias are home, so....
Place in a room with sufficient natural light to read fine print
Avoid drafts or excess heat from appliance, radiators, fireplaces and vent ducts.
Set your plant on a waterproof container to protect your carpets and furniture
Water your plant thoroughly when the soil is dry to the touch
Don't let the plant sit in excess water for any extended period of time
To prolong the bright color of the bracts (that's the colorful leaf like part), day time temperatures should not exceed 75 degrees during the day or 60 degrees at night.
